Stephen has over 20 years' experience in the delivery of external and internal audit, advisory and other assurance services across the public and not-for-profit sectors, including higher education, local government, health, central government, further education, housing associations, companies and national and international charities, covering clients of all sizes and complexities.
A member of both the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland, Stephen was identified, in 2008, by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy as one of 10 future leaders across the UK. In 2009 Stephen completed a part-time secondment with Audit Scotland where he played a significant role in producing Audit Scotland's seminal report 'Scotland's public finances: preparing for the future'.
Together with his role on CHAS, he is also an ICAS member of the Local Authority (Scotland) Accounts Advisory Committee (LASAAC) and from 2007 to 2015 was a non-executive trustee of Strathcarron Hospice and chaired its audit committee for the majority of that time.
Originally from central Scotland and educated at the University of Aberdeen, where he studied politics and international relations, Stephen now lives in Edinburgh. Outside work he enjoys running and all things French!
