Gillian Donald

Gillian’s precious son Fin was supported by CHAS in the last few years of his life.

Gillian grew up in Northern Ireland, but Aberdeen became her home after she studied law at the University of Aberdeen. She qualified as a solicitor in 2001, specialising in employment law. Most of her career was spent in a prominent Aberdeen law firm where she was partner and head of employment.

In 2015 she took a career break to support her precious son, Fin, who had been diagnosed with a very rare, degenerative, life shortening illness. As Fin’s care needs escalated, Gillian and her family received invaluable support from the Aberdeen CHAS team. It was thanks to this care that 11-year-old Fin was able to pass away peacefully at home in his own bed on 22 May 2020.

Gillian has now returned to the legal profession and is a Senior Associate at Brodies LLP, advising a wide range of businesses on all aspects of employment law.

I know the immense heartache and significant challenges that families facing the death of their child go through. The wide-ranging support that CHAS can provide during this awful time really does make a huge difference. I am delighted to be able to a trustee of this charity and very committed to supporting CHAS in ensuring every child and family who needs their help can access it.
