International Nurses Day 2026
International Nurses Day (IND) is celebrated around the world on 12 May.
The day recognises the vital contribution nurses make to healthcare and is marked each year on the birthday of Florence Nightingale.
The International Nurses Day 2026 theme, set by the International Council of Nurses, is:
"Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives."
This year's theme highlights the importance of investing in and empowering nurses through safe working environments, the right tools and facilities, and a strong professional voice and leadership. These foundations support nurses to continue making a life changing difference for patients and families.
At CHAS, International Nurses Day provides an opportunity to recognise the compassion, expertise and commitment Nursing staff bring to children, young people and families every day. This care often supports families at some of the most challenging times in their lives.
To mark the day, we're sharing a short video featuring nursing colleagues from across CHAS. In the video, colleagues reflect on what they are most looking forward to in the future - including planned improvements to facilities and equipment, the wider culture and feel of CHAS, the impact of the More Than a Hospice appeal in raising the profile of nursing, and personal reflections on why this work matters.
International Nurses Day is also being acknowledged across CHAS services, including:
Special menus planned at Rachel and Robin House
Packages sent to CHAS at Home Teams and Diana Children's Nurses, ensuring colleagues working in the community can also take part
A thank you card from Jen Rodgers, Jenn Stewart and Nicki Corrigan, along with chocolate and a special International Nurses Day badge, for all Nursing staff
These activities reflect the value placed on Nursing colleagues and the significant contribution made across CHAS in support of children and families.
Happy International Nurses Day, and thank you to all nurses đź’›.
