Rami Okasha

Rami is the Chief Executive Officer of CHAS

Rami took up the role of CEO in February 2020. He is responsible for providing strategic leadership of the organisation, and for ensuring that CHAS fulfils its legal and service responsibilities.

Rami Okasha is the Chief Executive of Children’s Hospices Across Scotland. He provides strategic leadership for the organisation, placing particular emphasis on the continued delivery of high-quality services and developing a positive workplace culture which delivers with impact for children and families.

He leads a team of around 380 staff and 800 volunteers, and is responsible for a revenue budget of over £25m. Since his appointment in 2020, Rami has expanded services for children beyond the hospice buildings, including developing innovative partnerships with NHS and commercial organisations to reach more children.

Rami was previously Executive Director of Strategy and Improvement at the Care Inspectorate where he co-led the development of Scotland's Health and Social Care Standards, ensuring they were outcomes-focused, based on human rights and wellbeing, and person-led. Previously, he worked in public affairs and education. In 2024, he was appointed by the Scottish Ministers as Poverty and Inequality Commissioner.

Previous non-executive appointments include Chair of the Scottish Partnership for Palliative Care (bringing together over 100 public, voluntary and private organisations with an interest in death and dying); the Equality and Human Rights Commission's statutory Scotland Committee; and a Trustee at Luminate, Scotland’s creative aging organisation.

In hospice, home and hospital, we support children who die young. Children's palliative care is all about striving to make the impossible, possible - in the face of overwhelming odds - for families going through the hardest of times.

Three children a week die from a life-shortening condition in Scotland, and CHAS wants to be there for all of them. Our mission is to keep the joy alive for even more families across Scotland. We will do that by working in close partnership with the Scottish Government, local government, the NHS and the Scottish public. Please do take the time to find out about our work and get involved where you can.

Our values underpin everything we do at CHAS. We seek to demonstrate our values in all our interactions with the children and families we care for, colleagues, volunteers, supporters, and partners. By actively living our values we are able to provide high quality care and support to children and families throughout Scotland.
