Alan brings a deep understanding of social work principles to the Board
Alan has been a qualified social worker for nearly 40 years and has held a number of senior positions including Director of Social Work with Dundee City Council and more recently as Chief Social Work Adviser to Scottish Government. He also served as President of the Directors of Social Work in 2008/9.
Alan was appointed Honorary Professor in Social Work at Dundee University in 2017. He was recently appointed to the Board of the Scottish Social Services Council and co - chairs a workstream of the Independent Care Review in Scotland.
Alan is married to Rosaline and they have a daughter Lauren who is a primary school teacher. His principal interests are golf, football travel and music. Alan was a qualified football referee in the past which proved to be as challenging as social work. As someone who doesn't like heights, Alan surprised himself by completing a charity parachute jump. Amazing what you will do for a good cause!
Since my first contact with CHAS, I remain inspired by an organisation totally committed to the children and families it serves. 'Keeping the Joy Alive' underlines the commitment to reach every child with life-limiting conditions. It is a privilege to serve as a Trustee and I hope I can play my part in supporting those families in need of care in our hospices and at home.
