Counselling is about listening, understanding and helping you process what’s happening in your life. You’ll always be accepted just as you are. And everything will happen at a pace that suits you.
Here are some examples of the different ways that our counsellors can help.
Most people find it helpful to work through these issues on a step-by-step basis. Our counsellors will work with you to decide what area should be covered first.
We offer counselling to adult family members and anyone 18 years old and over using our services.
Simply ask your key worker to refer you for counselling. Or, you can also contact the Family Support Team in either Rachel or Robin House.
After your referral’s been accepted, we’ll meet with you to discuss how counselling can help. Once you feel happy with everything, the counselling will start.
Sessions are usually at a set time on the same day each week. They’ll last for an hour, at either Rachel or Robin House. The number of sessions will be decided by you and your counsellor. There will also be regular reviews along the way.
At the start you might not know exactly what you want to achieve from your sessions. But, with your counsellor’s help, your goals should gradually become clearer. We’d recommend that you spend some time thinking about what you want to get out of your counselling.
Our counsellors follow the ethical framework set out by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). See their code of practice.
You may need be referred to another practitioner for specialist therapy that’s beyond your counsellor’s training and experience. This might even be a referral to your own GP. But, this will only happen with your permission, after we’ve talked to you.
