Everyone should have a Will.

A Will is the only way to ensure that your wishes are carried out when you are no longer around. Without a will your estate will be divided up in line with the rules of intestacy. This means that you have little or no control over who receives what from your estate.

You should create or update your will:

• when you have an unmarried partner who should inherit from your estate.
• when you get married, and your current will is invalidated (in England and Wales) or doesn't include your new spouse (in Scotland).
• When you have a child and want to appoint a guardian.
• When you buy a property or receive a large windfall.
• If you get divorced - your previous will won't automatically be invalidated.
• When you want to make provisions for step-children, foster children or dependents including pets.
• If your spouse passes away, and your previous will left the estate to them.

For most people creating a will or updating one is straightforward. Doing it with a solicitor provides peace of mind that your will is valid.

The National Free Wills Network provides you with access to almost 900 solicitors across the UK, on average the nearest solicitor will be within 3.5 miles from you.

The National Free Wills Network is compliant and accountable to the Institute of Fundraising, Fundraising Regulator and Law Societies.

How it Works

• Register your contact details below
• A member of our Legacy Team will be in touch/contact you to talk you through the process, the difference your gift could make and refer you for a Free Will
• You will receive a letter, a list of solicitors, full terms and conditions and a confidential declaration form
• You select your desired solicitor and contact them directly to arrange to have your Will written/amended
• As part of the Will writing process, you will complete the confidential declaration form
• If you choose to leave a gift in your Will to CHAS, we would send you a special thank you to acknowledge how much your gift means to us
