Fund a day

Do you have a special date in your diary?

Why not make it extra special by knowing that you are helping families make the most of their time together and caring for them when their child has died.

Fund a whole day of care, compassion and joy!

On any day in our hospices, a new family might be taking the first few brave steps inside a hospice, a child may be using our hydrotherapy pool and others could be playing music. Meanwhile, a family could be sharing quiet, special moments with their child and receiving compassionate support from nurses and chaplains in the comfort of their own home.

You can support these special moments by paying for a whole day of our care – either at Robin or Rachel House, or even fund a day’s care across all of CHAS, including the CHAS at Home team.

You can choose to pay for any period you like – from a day to a weekend of care or even the whole of Christmas!

Just get in touch and we can chat through all options.

We welcome groups as well as individuals, so why not get a group of friends together and pool resources to raise the money – get involved with one of our many fun events.

What does it cost?

CHAS needs to raise £5,650 to fund a day’s care in Rachel or Robin House. £12,750 will fund a day’s care across all of CHAS services: in our hospices, the family home and hospitals across Scotland.

CHAS receives approximately 50% of their funding from the Scottish Government. The figures above are what CHAS needs to cover on a daily basis from other sources. These figures are accurate as of August 2017.

Families are never charged for this care.

Our valued supporters

We were delighted when Claire and Mark Urquhart became our very first Fund a Day supporters. Mark said:

"Claire and I are delighted to be able to support the CHAS pay for a day initiative. Whilst we were aware of CHAS before, our attendance at the Rocking Horse Ball last year really brought home how important the service is to all members of families who use it.

We have first-hand experience of a family friend whose son is living with a rare genetic disorder who regularly goes to Rachel House. From talking to her, it is clear that it provides a place of respite, tranquillity and support which is invaluable to the care she is able to give both her son and his elder sister."

This year, Keith and Lisa Neilson are paying for 2 days care in Rachel House on their birthdays, the 2nd February and the 22nd March:

“Anyone who visits Rachel House can see first-hand the difference CHAS makes to children with life-limiting illness, and the comfort this provides to their families. The nurses, doctors, activity workers and all the staff are so dedicated, helping to make those difficult and distressing days just a bit easier. We are delighted to support Rachel House on the 2nd February, and the 22nd March 2018, and thank everyone at CHAS for the truly inspiring work and seemingly limitless compassion they show every day.”

Celebrate your day

You’re doing something truly wonderful, so there’s no need to be shy about it – unless you wish to be, of course. We’ll always respect your desire to remain anonymous. But who knows, your kindness might inspire someone else to pay for a day, or more at CHAS too. So we’ve put together several ways to celebrate your day, or days:

  • A personalised gift to remember your day. We’ll display your name in the reception area of Robin or Rachel House on your day. We'll also send you a personalised gift to display in your home, or place of work if it’s your company that’s supporting CHAS.
  • Share your experience to inspire others. You could have your very own testimonial on our website – giving you space to talk about why you chose to pay for a day at CHAS and how you raised the money. There may also be space to say a big thank you to anyone else who has helped along the way.
  • Come and meet the children you’ve helped. What better way to thank you than to invite you to come and visit? We would be delighted to arrange a visit to Rachel or Robin House on, or around, your special day. Whether it’s Robin or Rachel House, you can see for yourself what impact your gift makes for the children and their families.
