Spring is in the air and we’ve another of our ever popular Facebook Virtual Challenge Events – this time it’s cycling!
The challenge is to cycle 250km (or miles, or more!) in May and raise funds for children with life-shortening conditions and their families across Scotland.
To take part, join our dedicated event Facebook Group - you’ll be able to connect with other supporters throughout the challenge, share how your rides are going and access helpful fundraising tips.
From the group you'll be able to register for your FREE t-shirt and we have instructions on how to set up your Facebook fundraiser.
We’ve tried to answer as many questions you may have below, but if we’ve missed any, don’t hesitate to email Charlie, Challenge Events Assistant - charlieLeavy@chas.org.uk.
No, the goal is to do the 250km over the month of May. It is up to you how you take on this challenge.
You can use an app on your phone such as Strava and then write down how many kilometres you do at the end of each day on the paper tracker in your fundraising pack. Don’t forget to post in the Facebook Group too and let everyone know how you’re doing!
As part of this challenge, you will be asked to set up a Cycle 250 in May Facebook Fundraising Page for CHAS where you can post your distances weekly or after every cycle depending on preference. These pages are linked to CHAS and we’ll be able to see your progress.
Visit www.facebook.com/fund/supportCHAS/ and wait for the pop-up to set up a page. Be sure to add Cycle 250km in your page title so we can easily find you and most importantly make sure the end date is set to 7 June.
This gives your supporters time to make last minute donations after you’ve finished the challenge.
Yes! You can make your target whatever you want – you can make the challenge as hard as you want!
You’ll find all the details in the Facebook Group. If you’re not on Facebook don’t worry, email Charlie Leavy on charlieLeavy@chas.org.uk and he’ll help you out.
We will be posting out packs throughout April. We will get this to you as soon as we can, although please be patient as we are still working from home and can only post out once per week.
All participants will receive a t-shirt when they sign up for the event. There is no minimum fundraising amount but we ask that you try to raise as much vital funds as possible for CHAS. Anyone who raises over £150 will receive a medal after the event.
Facebook Fundraisers are the easiest way for you to fundraise. The funds raised are sent directly to the CHAS bank account and there are no fees involved.
Alternatively, you can set up a page on JustGiving – please make sure you call your page Cycle 250 in May for CHAS.
Or you can request a sponsor sheet for collecting cash by emailing Charlie on charlieLeavy@chas.org.uk.
Unfortunately we can’t issue refunds through Facebook but people can request a refund themselves from Facebook by following the below steps:
There are two options for them to support your fundraiser:
If you have raised money via a sponsor sheets then you can:
Donate raised funds online here: www.chas.org.uk/donate
Transfer the funds directly to our bank account – get in touch with Charlie for our bank details – charlieLeavy@chas.org.uk.
To do this Facebook suggests you can add up to three friends to be organizers of your fundraiser to help you manage it and rally more supporters to reach your fundraising goals.
First create your Fundraiser on Facebook and then by clicking the three dots next to the "share" button you can add organisers.
Please remember to follow all government restrictions on Covid-19 when taking part in the event.
