School events

Why not organise a fundraising event? It’s great fun and an easy way to make new friends. All you need is imagination and lots of enthusiasm. It’s also very rewarding. Not only are you putting your planning skills to good use by raising money for CHAS, it’s a great thing to have on your CV.

Here are some of the fantastic events schools have held for CHAS in the past – of course you may already have some crazy ideas of your own! We hope it inspires you to raise some money because every single penny you can raise at school for CHAS makes a real difference to the families we help across Scotland. You can get in touch with your local fundraising office for advice and support, we'd love to hear from you.

Sponsored Jainxi

Pupils at Queen Anne High School in Dunfermline took part in a sponsored game of Jainxi. Sounds familiar? Probably not, because it’s a Chinese game that involves ‘keepy uppy’ with a huge shuttlecock. It was a massive success that netted £6,000 for CHAS.

Watch the video of pupils and teachers doing Jainxi:

The school have been fundraising since 1994 and other events include a Million Metre Challenge last year. Pupils, staff and volunteers rowed one million metres in one day to raise over £8,500 and covered roughly the distance from Ullapool to London.

Pupil Esther Nisbet, said: “I had never heard of CHAS until my school began supporting them as our main charity.  I soon realised that other children the same age and younger than me were facing real difficulties in their lives.  I really wanted to help and do my best to raise as much money as I could for CHAS.”

Scottish Themed Event Schools-Woodlands Primary school

Pupils at Woodlands Primary School in Irvine had a dress down day with a difference. Pupils from primary one to seven donated 50p each so they could wear something Scottish – ranging from tartan scarves to kilts – and the school was a sea of tartan for the day. It raised a fantastic sum of £150 for CHAS and what a great twist on the dress down day theme.

Running for Verity
Schools-Fettes College-Running for Verity
More than 500 pupils from Fettes college in Edinburgh took part in a running event in memory of their classmate Verity Young. Verity sadly lost her battle with cancer last year, and had received care at Rachel House.

The event has raised over £9,600 – what a wonderful way to show their support to Verity’s family and raise money for CHAS.

Verity’s mum Laura said: "We were totally overwhelmed when we heard about the fundraising effort. It is brilliant, and that's so similar to our feelings about Rachel House and what they did for us because that was brilliant."
