We are asking young people to help us by reading for CHAS. It doesn’t matter what age you are or what you choose to read, everyone can get involved. Laura and Sarah, Nicole and Euan all had great fun doing their big reads:
St Mungo’s High School in Falkirk held their third Big Read event and raised a fantastic amount of over £1,500.
Laura and Sarah, who helped to organise this event, said, “We raised awareness before the event throughout various assemblies to all pupils. The pupils were very enthusiastic about taking part and the day was a great success. We raised a lot of money. The day ended on a high note with Ross Forbes and Mark Reynolds from Motherwell Football Club showing their support for the cause by issuing certificates to all the participants!” They are pictured here having a well deserved hot chocolate break!

“My name is Nicole, I’m 10 and I go to Halfmerke Primary School in East Kilbride. Me and my friends raised £1, 182 for CHAS by reading books. I love reading and the books I read for CHAS were Matilda and two Hannah Montana books.
Every year my school picks a charity and we raise money for them. We were asked to think of a charity and I had all my CHAS stuff ready. My Headmaster, Mr McCulloch, was very pleased and CHAS was chosen as our charity.
I picked CHAS because they help make children’s last few years really special and because I know someone who works for CHAS. Her name is Jacqui and one time she took me into Robin House and the children looked really happy!
Me and the whole school had a great time and we all got stickers and certificates from CHAS. It felt really good that the charity I wanted got picked and everyone had fun raising all the money for the children at Rachel House and Robin House!”

Teachers at Strathaven Academy enjoyed a quiet afternoon on Tuesday 10 February, when S1 pupils spent time in silence – reading a book! Their aim was to raise funds and support CHAS, by taking part in Rachel and Robin’s Big Read. Pupils rose to the challenge and raised the incredible sum of £1,479.60.
Euan Clark, S1 pupil described taking part, “Everyone enjoyed it – it was fun to spend time reading a book we wanted instead of doing school work. I read “Titanic”, which was a book I got at Christmas. This was a great way to spend our afternoon and it was for a good cause.”
