The McMenemy Family

We’ve been using Robin House and CHAS at Home for our four year old daughter Millie since 2008. At six months old Millie was diagnosed with Zellweger Syndrome and we were told she wouldn’t live to see her first birthday. Everyone was preparing us for the fact that she only had a matter of weeks – but it felt as though they were talking to someone else, it didn’t feel real. Our first visit to Robin House we remember really clearly. Millie was pushed about in her buggy and then taken into the big play area. It was the first time anyone had ever looked after Millie other than us and she got so much out of that first day, painting and drawing.

CHAS at Home has helped to give us more confidence to allow someone else to help look after Millie at home. CHAS at Home is absolutely brilliant, the nurse visits us twice a month and she really understands Millie. The best thing about Robin House is being able to relax and switch off. You don’t realise how busy you are and how bad things get until you get to Robin House and you feel a load being lifted. It also gives us a chance to have concerted time with our other children. They have a ball - there is always something going on.

Millie’s grandparents came for a visit too and they were absolutely blown away by it – I think it’s great for people to really see what a children’s hospice is like. People don’t grasp what it’s like until they see the place.
