Donated clothing is transformed into funds for Scotland’s Children’s Hospice Charity.Clothes Aid Cheque Presentation

Clothes collection company, Clothes Aid, was pleased to present the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) with £100,000 on Wednesday 10 March. The impressive amount was raised over the past 12 months through house to house collections of donated clothing throughout Scotland.

Presenting the cheque to Pauline Tanbini, Retail Manager at CHAS, was Clothes Aid’s franchisee in Scotland Ruslan Martinov.

Pauline said, “To have reached such an impressive total after 12 months is wonderful. Every person who has reached into their wardrobe to donate to Clothes Aid has helped CHAS reach out to children and young people with life-limiting conditions throughout Scotland.”

The nation’s clothing, donated to CHAS through the Clothes Aid partnership, has enabled these crucial funds to be raised for the charity, which provides the only hospice services in Scotland for children and young people. CHAS runs two children’s hospices, Rachel House in Kinross and Robin House in Balloch as well as a home care service called CHAS at Home. CHAS offers professional care, practical help and emotional support for the whole family.

Not only do the clothing donations raise funds, they also help to protect the environment. The fashion conscious Scottish public bin over 2,000 tonnes of textiles each year*. However, generous donations have helped divert tonnes of textiles from landfill over the past twelve months.

Both hospices are purpose-built and each can provide ongoing support for up to 200 families across Scotland each year.  The CHAS at Home Team offers support to families referred to the hospices by providing a care service to families in their own homes when they need it most.

The partnership between Clothes Aid and CHAS will continue throughout 2010. Ruslan Martinov of Clothes Aid said, “We would like to thank the thousands of householders in Scotland for generously donating their forgotten fashion items and raising £100,000 for CHAS. We hope that Scotland will continue to donate their old clothes to Clothes Aid throughout 2010 to make a difference to the lives of children and young people, and their families, who rely on CHAS.”
