Bereavement Support
At CHAS, we offer ongoing bereavement support to families for as long as they feel they need it.

Everyone deals with the loss of a loved one in a different way, and we know that there are many different stages and manifestations of grief. The services we offer help to support families, whether parents, siblings, grandparents or other relatives, at this difficult time. We know that family and friends can be very important in providing support, but sometimes talking with someone outside the family can help too.

Our bereavement support includes the following:Picture of a Dragonfly - Photo Credit: Paul Hampton
  • Bereavement teams at both Rachel House and Robin House providing individual support for family members
  • Support Groups - each House holds regular meetings for bereaved families who wish to return to the House and share in supporting one another
  • Telephone befrienders - provide a listening ear to bereaved parents
  • The Siblings' Group - helps children to express their feelings through activities and contact with other children going through a similar experience
  • Spiritual and religious support - the hospice chaplains are available to listen and discuss spiritual and other matters
  • Remembering Days - allows families to remember their child and celebrate their child's life with other bereaved families and with the team from the hospice
  • CHAS Bereavement Pack - offers advice and help on many different areas, including from a practical and an emotional perspective.
  • Newsletters - to keep families in touch with events and developments

CHAS makes its bereavement support accessible to those who have used one of our hospices, but it is also available, if appropriate, to those who have not. There is no waiting list – immediate help and support is available.

The Bereavement and Family Support Team includes Social Workers, Chaplains, Child and Family Support Workers and the Activities Team.
